String of Dolphins
Curio x peregrinus
The String of Dolphins is a whimsical trailing succulent hybrid prized for its unique foliage, where each fleshy leaf resembles a tiny, leaping dolphin. A cross between Curio rowleyanus (String of Pearls) and Curio articulatus (Hot Dog Cactus), this plant creates cascading stems that look stunning in hanging baskets. Under the right conditions, it may produce small, composite, white flowers that carry a subtle cinnamon scent.

Care Guide
Light Requirements
Place your String of Dolphins in a location that receives at least 6 hours of bright, indirect sunlight daily. While it can tolerate some direct morning sun, harsh afternoon rays can cause the leaves to scorch. If the dolphin-shaped leaves begin to flatten or look like 'stingrays,' it is a clear sign the plant needs more light.
Watering Protocol
Follow the 'soak and dry' method. Wait until the potting soil is completely dry before watering deeply. In the winter months, reduce watering frequency to once every 4 to 6 weeks as the plant enters dormancy. Overwatering is the primary cause of root rot.
Soil and Potting
Plant in a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. A mixture of two parts potting soil, one part perlite, and one part coarse sand is ideal. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes at the bottom.
Temperature and Environment
Maintain temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C). Protect the plant from cold drafts and frost, as it is not cold-hardy and may suffer damage if temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C).
