Pet Warning
Toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion can cause oral irritation, swelling of the mouth/tongue, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing due to insoluble calcium oxalate crystals.
Care Guide
Lighting
While it tolerates low light, bright indirect light promotes the best variegation. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves and turn them brown.
Watering
Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Drooping leaves are a sign the plant is thirsty, while yellowing leaves suggest overwatering or poor drainage.
Soil and Potting
Use a standard well-draining potting mix. Pothos prefer to be slightly root-bound, so only repot every 1-2 years when roots begin to circle the bottom of the pot.
Seasonal Maintenance
In winter, reduce watering as the plant's metabolism slows. Periodically wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain photosynthesis efficiency.
Common Issues
Watch for mealybugs or fungus gnats. If stems become too leggy, prune them back to a node to encourage bushier growth and use the cuttings for propagation.
