Foxtail Fern
Asparagus densiflorus 'Meyeri'
Foxtail Fern grows plume-like fronds from a central clump, though it is an asparagus relative rather than a true fern. Dense needle-like foliage looks soft in containers and hanging baskets. Tuberous roots store water, so it forgives missed drinks better than most ferns.

The Foxtail Fern is toxic to dogs and cats. The berries can cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested, and the sap can cause skin irritation or allergic dermatitis.

Full guide →Light
Give bright, indirect light. Some morning sun is fine; harsh afternoon rays can yellow or brown the needles. Medium light works, but the plant grows less densely.
Water
Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Tuberous roots store moisture, so occasional underwatering is survivable, but steady moisture looks best. Empty the saucer so roots do not sit wet.
Soil
Use a well-draining mix rich in organic matter in a planter with drainage holes. Repot about every two years when the root mass fills the pot.
Humidity & Temperature
Moderate humidity is enough for most homes. Mist or use a pebble tray if winter air is very dry. Keep temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C-24°C) and protect from anything below 50°F.
Common Issues
Yellow needles often mean too much direct sun or severe underwatering. Needle drop can follow a sudden light change or a long dry spell. Prune brown or yellow stems at the base.
