Care Guide

African Violet Care Guide

1. Light Requirements African Violets need 10 to 14 hours of bright, indirect light per day to bloom. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the sensitive, fuzzy leaves. Rotate the pot a quarter-turn every week to ensure even growth.

2. Watering Protocol Water from the bottom by placing the pot in a saucer of room-temperature water for 20 minutes. This prevents water from touching the foliage, which can cause unsightly leaf spotting or crown rot. Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy.

3. Temperature and Humidity Keep temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C-24°C). These plants thrive in moderate humidity (40-60%). If your home is dry, use a pebble tray but avoid misting the leaves directly.

4. Soil and Potting Use a light, well-aerated potting mix specifically formulated for African Violets, usually containing peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. They prefer being slightly root-bound in pots with excellent drainage.

5. Maintenance Regularly remove spent flowers and yellowed leaves to encourage new blooms. Repot with fresh soil every 6 to 12 months to maintain nutrient levels.
