Also called Natal Ivy: a South African succulent climber with thick glossy triangular leaves that look like English ivy, plus pale yellow daisy-like flowers. Trails or twines well when you use soak-and-dry watering and bright filtered light.

Pet Warning

All parts of the plant contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses if ingested, potentially leading to liver damage.

Care Notes

Light

Bright, indirect light suits it best. Gentle morning sun is fine. Intense afternoon sun can scorch succulent leaves. A south or west window with a sheer curtain works well.

Water

Use soak-and-dry. Let the top 50-75% of the mix dry, then water thoroughly. Excellent drainage holes are the main defense against root rot.

Soil

A cactus or succulent mix with perlite or grit drains fast enough for this plant.

Humidity & Temperature

Keep temperatures around 60-80°F. Bring indoors below about 50°F. Average home humidity is usually fine; a bit more humidity helps in dry rooms. Water much less in winter.

Common Issues

Pinch tips for a fuller plant. Soft yellow leaves usually mean overwatering. Watch for aphids and mealybugs.
