Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera jamesonii

Gerbera Daisy produces large blooms in red, orange, yellow, pink, and related shades above velvety foliage. Native to South Africa, it brings outdoor flower color to a bright indoor planter. Keep water off the crown and give it strong filtered light.

Care Notes

Light

Place your gerbera in bright, indirect light. Morning sun is helpful; harsh afternoon rays can wilt petals and scorch leaves.

Water

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Pour onto the soil only, not the crown or foliage, to reduce crown rot and fungus. Use a planter with excellent drainage.

Soil

A rich, well-draining mix with a slightly acidic pH keeps roots healthy without staying soggy.

Humidity & Temperature

Moderate humidity is fine. In winter, water less, stop fertilizing, and keep the plant away from cold drafts and heating vents. Deadhead spent blooms by cutting stems close to the base, and wipe dusty leaves with a damp cloth.

Common Issues

Wilting in hot afternoon sun means the plant needs more shade. Soft crowns usually mean water sat on the growing point.
